CHC Welcomes Program Coordinator

Please welcome, Kaitlin!

Kaitlin Berns is thrilled to join the Center for Health Communication as a Program Coordinator on two projects aimed at reducing substance use disorder and promoting social connectedness in Texas.

Kaitlin brings a background in clinical nutrition and experience working with families enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Her direct experiences with providing interdisciplinary community health services at the county level have allowed Kaitlin to observe and understand the key functions of state and local public health infrastructure, as well as the critical role that health communication campaigns play in reducing disparities and advancing health equity.  She also brings knowledge and passion for trauma-informed systems and delivery of care and is excited to help translate these concepts for use in CHC’s messaging projects and broader goals.

Originally from Wisconsin, Kaitlin earned a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences at UW Madison, completed her Dietetic Internship at the University of Iowa, and then earned her Master of Public Health at UC Berkeley. She recently relocated to Austin from the Bay Area and has loved getting to know her new city by way of hiking, running, the occasional paddleboarding excursion, and (most importantly) eating all the scrumptious food!
